ADVENTURE OF TOY DOG

(Original.) < Toy Dog sighed. Another day wan dawning, and. Toy Dog was not at all pleased. Again his tail would b3 puiled, his ears chewed, and his eye poked. As 7 o'clock struck, Babyruler of the household—awoke. A loud howl penetrated through the house. More howls. ■ Toy Dog was plucked violently from his shelf, and given to the baby. Silence at last, broken only, by the sounds of chewing, as Baby endeavoured to eat the more mutilated car. This was very nice for; Baby, but not for Toy Dog. He was pinched, bit>ten, and kicked all over, till at last ha gave a protesting squc-tk as Baby hit him hi the stomach. His spirit rose. He'd stand it no more! And to prova it, when it was Baby's lunchtime, Toy, Dog ran away. Over the kitchen floor lie scuttled, into the backyard, and under the fence. Then he stopped and surveyed the big world before him. ■To the left of him was a green field, to the right a big house. He decided to try the field. It struck him that that green, stuff was too long—"and too thick," he added, as ho tumbled over a big tussock. Then—his ' heart seemed to stand still. Coming towards him was a real dog—not a to.v like .himself. With a bound the, dog was "on him, shaking him playfully by the ear. "The—world's too —exciting forme!I.' decided Toy Dog jerkily. "Wish! I was—home—again! " Soon the dog stopped shaking him, and ran away with Toy. Dog still in his mouth. Then he was dropped'ia the mud, then kicked out of it by some boys, who used him for a football. By a strange chance, he was kicked over into his own backyard, whore- Baby soon found him. Baby still pinches and kicks him, but Toy Dog dopsn't..mind now.
