BEAUTIFYING PETONE
MUCH TREE-PLANTING
TOWN IMPROVEMENTS
A considerable amount of beautification work is being done in Petone. It was felt that the entrance from tho city did not present as attractive an appearance as was desirable, so it has been decided to carry out considerable improvements. Trees will be planted, and other work done, and men will bo put o/i tho beautifieation work almost immediately. The ; Recreation Ground at Petone is being, greatly improved in appearance. The improvements include a rosary inside the grounds alongside Kensington Avenue, and a rustic fence, about four chains long, for climbing roses is being put up. A hedge has been planted at the rear of tho workshops of tho Monmrial Technical College, and three beds of annuals are to be put in alongside the hedge. The ground inside tho Eecreation Ground is to bo raised near Kensington Avenue, and will probably bo planted next season. Tho ground has bjen raised up alongside the cycle track that runs round the Oval.
About 200 Scotch firs and 250 poplar trees have been planted in McEwan Park, by the beach. It is intended to plant about 1500 trees, mostly redwoods, at Korokoro. About 200 poplar trees have Obeen planted around the caretaker's cottage at Korokoro, and some 300 poplars have been plantedlalong the east side and the north end of North Park.
About fifty trees, including pohutukawas, have been planted along the beach.
