SHIPPING AT STANDSTILL
* (Received July 2G, 2.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Whipped up by a cyclone, big seas are running along the coast from the north of Byron Bay to just south of Sydney. Shipping has been brought almost to a standstill. The North Coast Steam Navigation Company has cancelled all its sailings to and from Sydney. The Weather Bureau "'has issued a warning to shipping; also of floods on the North Coast. Torrential rains have fallen on the North Coast, and large areas are under water. The watershed of the Hastings River is in flood, and other northern rivers are rising rapidly. The wharves at Wa.uchope, on tho Hastings, are already five feet under water. All the main roads are blocked. The Tweed River is ten feet above normal at Murwillumbah. Tributaries of the Clarence River are. flooded, heavy seas at the mouth of the river backing up the water.
The motor-ship Melinga broke away from the wharf at Woolgoolga and was •forced to sea. \
Heavy rains continue at Sydney, and the forecast is for further flood and falls.
