WOMEN AS BOWLERS
QUESTION OF MIXED, PLAY
"ENDING IN RUCTIONS"
"Personally, I like the women just as much as most men," said a member when speaking at the annual meeting of the St. Clair Bowling Club, Dunedin, last weeks, states the "Otago Daily Times." The remarks, wore made during a lengthy discusison on the question whether or not mixed play should be allowed on the club's green on Saturday evening. The member said that every man liked the company of ladies, but he was opposed to the lady members of the club mixing with the men bowlers on the green especially on Saturday evenings. When the ladies were around he made it his busines to keep away from the green. When mixed play was allowed "it generally ended in ructions." Another member said that it was a farce when rules were made at an annual meeing and were then broken by a minority committee immediately afterwards. The mover of the motion — "That mixed play bo allowed on the green"—was so annoyed with the attitude taken by the various speakers that he resigned his executive position, stating that he strongly resented the attitude taken up. There will not. be any mixed play on the St. Clair bowling green on Saturday evenings during the coming season, as the motion was rejected. After the. discussion had ended the member who had resigned was finally persuaded to carry on with his executive duties.
