"COSTER BALL"

PLANS FINALISED

Excellent progress was reported by the conveners of all the sub-committees at the final meeting of the "Coster Ball" committee last evening in the Palm Lounge of the Hotel St. George. Mr. H. IV "Woods presided. The ball is to take place on Friday, and no detail of a aostcr celebration has been forgotten by the assiduous organisers. Every article to be used in the decorations, and all the ingredients of the coster supper, whicl^ will include corned beef, roast beef, ham and tongue, baked potatoes, anil pickles, have ■ been given in enormous quantities by local firms and well-wishers of the City .Mission, as also have oysters, saveloys, novelties, etc., that will stock the various stalls. Men and woniou from the mission | will assist with the erection of the- do-1 corations and with the supper. All! the tables have been reserved, and there is a continued demand for more. It is impossible to accommodate more, but the executive would like to know if any tables already booked are- not going to be used, as they could be resold. The demand for ball and gallery tickets, also, is increasing steadily, and as the number is strictly limited, those wishing to attend the ball should buy their tickets early to avoid disappointment. Guessing competitions which have been carried on very successfully at the "Coster Shop," Lambton Quay, have been drawn, and won as follows:—Penguin, Miss J. Grant; quilt, Mr. Moody. Two tickets for the ball were given as a prize for guessing the number of buttons on the coat of the coster in the window. These were won by Mr. Evcrson, who guessed 1650. There will be prizes given for tho best "cosier" costumes at the ball, and there will be four very brief items in keeping with the nature of the evening.
