WHERE WAKEFUL FAILED?
In commenting on the Caulfield Cup, "Chiron," in the "Australasian," says: — Silver Scorn ran up an extraordinary sequence of successesin Isfew Zealand during the season just coming to an end, and last only one race. If she has not been over-rated .. in New Zealand, she must be given n chance in the Cauliield Cup with 9.4, although it represents 91b over weight-for-age. She appears to have exceptional speed, but apparently can be ridden behind, which is a great advantage, because so many' brilliant horses cannot stay, as they pull themselves to pieces by fighting with their riders. Seemingly. Silver Scorn is one of the more placid sort. Wakeful wa-s unable to win it with 0.0, and went under to Hymettus, but Mr. Leslie Maedonald always held the opinion that she should have won. The fact remains shn did not, and she, had 41b less than Silver Scorn is asked to carry. Nevertheless, Silver Scorn plight succeed where Wakeful failed.
