CHARLATAN'S HALF-BROTHER
Punchestown, easy winner of the Studholme Hack and Hunters' Hurdles at Waimate on Thursday, has been put to the jumping game only this winter, and the success came at his fifth outing over fences. He made a promising beginning by running fourth in the June Hurdles nt the Dunedin Winter Meeting, and at his last start prior to Thursday he ran a good third to Huntly and Polling Day at Ashbtirton.
On the flat lie won several races when owned and trained by J. J. Lewis iit Ashburton, including the principal handicap at the Ashburtort Winter Meeting two years in succession, but unsoundness restricted jiis activities. On one occasion when brought north he was in good demand for a. Parliamentary Handicap fit Trenthiiin, but he failed to run into a place. He is certainly bred to jump, for he is un eight-year-old half-brother by Thurnham Iff Charlatan (who was twice, placed in the Grand National Steeples). He has done' his racing this season in the colours of Mr. J. H. Grig?, and lie .is in T. if. Gillett's stable at Riecaiton.
