THOR BEATS CAPPIELLO
The French Derby (Prix dv Jockey Club) was run at Chantilly on June li, and it resulted in a victory for M. Marcel Boussac's bay colt Thou (Ksaf — Lasarte), who won by a length from Baron E. de Rothschild's Ccunping and M. L. Volterra's Casterari. Lady Grauard's Cappiello, the favourite, was fourth.
thor was ridden by E. C. Elliott, and lie reversed his running with Cappiello, Steve Donoghue up, in the Prix Lupin, which Cappiello won by a neck.
, The winner's time for the course of one mile and a half was 2min 37 l-ssec. The prize is worth £2500.
The Prix dv Jockey Club was instituted nearly a hundred years ago. It was in' June, 1835, that the French ."Jockey Club decided to establish a race which would be the counterpart of the Epsom Derby.
Two weeks later (June 25) there was another reversal of running between CapXnello and Thor in the Grand Prix do Paris at Longchamp, Cappiello winning by half a length from Thor and Assuerus. — '"Rangatira."
