The name "Hoover" lias been dropped by the new American Administration for the great dam in the 165,000,000 dollar irrigation project now under way in the Colorado Biver, which is hereafter to be known as the "Bouldor Dam." By a special order sent by Harold H. Ickes, Secretary of the Interior, to the Bureau of Beclamation, the 730-foot dam, for which the actual:pouring of cement begins within th© 'next few weeks, was renamed, says the "New York Times."
The appellation of "Hoover Dam" had been designed by Dr. Eay Lyniau Wilbur, Secretary of the Interior in the Administration of Herbert Hoover, and given to the project in September, 1932. A controversy has been carried on in various parts of the country ever since Dr." Wilbur announced-''Hoover" as the name of the; dam. . Beports received by the Interior . Department showed that many newspapers, particularly .in the West, have continued to refer to the dam as "Boulder Dam," disregarding the designation conferred on the great work by Dr. Wilbur.
Authorised during the Coolidge Administration, the clam, when completed will form a solid structure of masonry largor than the great pyramid of Ghizch ia Egypt.
