LONDON, July 21.
Runs wore plentiful in most of th 9 matches concluded today in'the county cricket championship. Outstanding among the individual performances was Santall's 201 not out for Warwiekshira against Northamptonshire. This was one of the mightiest knocks in history, Santall reaching his century in eighty minutes and scoring 173 before lunch. His innings occupied 165 minutes, and his big t scoro included four sixes, and twenty-five fours. From four overs by Jupp he scored 55 runs. .
In this match four other players scored centuries in the first innings, Bakewell and Timms for Northamptonshire and Kilner and Croom for Warwickshire. Others to make centuryscores were Eastman, O'Connor, Hopwood, Hearne, Woolloy, and Mead. One of the surprising results was the decisive defeat of Sussex (second to Yorkshire) by ■ Notts. Middlesex went-down to Kent.
The' results are:—
Essex y. Lancashire, at Leyton.—• Essex 317' (Eastman 113) and 200 for five wickets (O'Connor 102 not out); Lancashire 433 (Hopwood 142). Lancashire won on the first innings. Kent, v. Middlesex, at' Gravesend.—■ Middlesex 339 (Hearne 156) and 161----(Freeman six for 50); Kent 452 (Woolley 10$) and 50 for three wickets. Kent won. by seven wickets.
Hampshire ; v. Gloucestershire, at Gloucester.—Hampshire 238 and 333 for six wickets (Mead 116); Goucestershire 370 (Boyes five for 94). Gloucestershire won on the first innings. Leicestershire v. 'Glamorgan.— Glamorgan 220 and. 178 (Marlow five for 56); Leicestershire 228 and 171 for six wickets. Leicestershire won by four wickets.
Northamptonshire v. Warwickshire, at Northampton.—Northamptonshire 399 (Bakewell 116, Timms 113) and 76 for two wickets; Warwickshire- 565 for eight wickets, declared' (Kilner 114, Croom 116, Santall 201 not out). Warwickshire won on tho first innings. Nottinghamshire v. Sussex, at Nottingham.—Sussex 157 (Cox live for 36) and 195; Nottinghamshire 305 and 48 for one wicket. \ Nottinghamshire won by nine wickets.' , ■ /
GENTLEMEN V. PLAYERS
LONDON, July 21. The match, Gentlemen v. Players, was won by the Players.by ten wickets. Tho Gentlemen in their second innings made--177, leaving the Players with only 12 runs to make for a win.
