EASTBOURNE AFFAIRS
BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING
The monthly meeting o£ the Eastbourne Borough Council was hold last night. The Mayor (Mr. E. W. Wise) presided, and there were also present Councillors C, H. Andrews, A. 11. Maeandrcw, V. V. Haughton, A. T. E. Duncan,' S. G. Shearer, D. Bowie, C. A. ftendle, and Margaret Magill
Eastbourne has been asked to pay £10 towards the current year's rates ou Hutt Park, and Councillor C. H. Andrew* said that the park was an acquisition to the transport side ot the council's business. It was decided to pay the £10, provided arrears of rates on -the park were -wiped
off. The Lower Hutt Borough Council wrptc stating that buses should be- able to croa? Park Road at the railway crossing ordinary speed. Councillors expressed the opinion that tho road at the crossing was too rough to allow buse^ to cross it at the usual epocd, and the' Mayor undertook,, to see the Lower Hutt authorities about the matter. . The "Eastbourne Volunteer Kirc Brigade wrote to the effect that the Hutt Valley United Fire Brigades' Association's competitions were usually held at Lower Hutt or Petone. but they would probably be held at Eastbourne next year, provided there were two' hydrants on the Recreation Ground. Seven or eight brigades would take part in tho display. Ihe Mayor said the cost of shifting one hydrant and installing another would not be great, and it was decided to do this. A letter from Wairoa on rating and payment of rates by the Crown was Tet'erred to the finance committee.
