EXHIBITION OF RUGS
Mrs. S. D. Rogers presided over a very large gathering at the recent*meeting of the Upper Hutt Women's Institute. A great many beautiful and useful floor rugs were on show, and Mesdames Chapman-Taylor and Holcroft (Silverstream) and Tomlin and Jacobsen demonstrated the making of somo of these rugs. Mrs. Sutherland also demonstrated, the art of spinning with a spinning wheel. During the last month a very successful "Husbands' Evening" was given. This was the first of its kind organised by the branch, and took the form of a "Mad Hatters" party. All sorts of amusements were indulged in and a delicious supper was served. The competition for the afternoon •was "Group' Suggestions for.the Institute;" Mesdames Trier, Culling, Heifford, A. Benge, O. Brown, and Manderson acted, as hostesses. Mesdames Baigent, Sharper, and Neighbours were elected to visit the sick of the district. Part of the afternoon was spent in dancing and community singing, and the singing of the National Anthem concluded a very enjoyable meeting.
