THE JUNE STATISTICS
(Special to the "Evening Post.") . ■.' ■ ' '■ ■ ■ ; '■"NELSON, July 1. . Nelson experienced its. second driest; June since ISB3, only .74in of rain being; recorded by ■ the Cawthron Institute: meteorological station. The driest June, on record was in 1930, when only .64in was registered. The average fall for the month, laktoi over a period of 43 years, is 3.68 in. The rainfall for the year to date is 17.94 m in. the city. At the Government Research Station at Redwood's Valley 2.43 in were recorded in June, bringing the total tor the year to date t0.14.14in in that area. The June sunshine, as recorded by the Cawthron Institute, was 176 hours 30 minutes, making-an average of .5 hours 53 minutes > for the midwinter,. month. All the members of the -Nelson Tire Board have now been appointed, and it will not : be' long before this new body holds its first meeting. Mr. Albert Dee, o£;Nelson, has been appointed as the Government representative. The insurance members are Messrs. h. A. Hutton and D. S. N. McCartney (Wellington)', and the Nelson City. Council will be represented by the Mayor (Mr. W. J. Moftatt) and Councillor E. R.Neale. Customs duties collected at Nelson during June amounted to £1928 2s lOd, against £682 16s 7d for June in 1932. Excise beer duty, collected was £739 12s lid, compared with'1 £782 6s'9d in the corresponding month in last year. Sales las. for June amounted-to £1290 13s. Id. For the June quarter the figures,, with those ■ for the corresponding period last year in parentheses, were as follows: —Customs duties, £7211 19s 4d (£5595 19s 2d); excise beer duty £2450 10s 8d (£2651 8s Od); motor spirit tax, £1863 9s 9d (£2572155); tire tax, £141 (£l3O Bs)} sales tax, £4354 19s Applications for building under the subsidy scheme continue to come forward freely, and up to today a total of £10,000 was covered in the applications. The intended work includes 15 new houses. During June, 26 births, 17 deaths, and 8 marriages were registered in Nelson. Mr. O.'C- jEL Burton has returned home on leave from India, and-is staying with his parents, Lieutenant-Colonel and Sirs. H. C. H.
