Marisfc defeated Diamond' by 2 goals to 1 at the Basin Reserve in a game which produced good football. . MarLst scored first, but at half-time Diamond had equalised. Marist scored about halfway through the second spell, and mo,re than held their opponents for the remainder. .of the game. ■ Their win was deserved. wind, and Marist immediately attacked through the left wing, Marshment lobbing the ball into the goalmiouth. The Diamond v»n broke away twice, and then Marist agaiu launched a scries of attacks, one of which was very nearly successful. M. Condon snapped up an opportunity and drove hard, Wyatt making.agood save. Aided by the wind, Marist maintained the attack and were at last successful when they scored in an effort in which M. Condon and Kershaw shared the honours. Marist 1, Diamond 0. A Diamond breakaway saw the ball go out 1 to Stark, on the wing, whoi-se shot, though ! high, was well taken. Rabbitt missed v glorious opportunity when he broke through the Marist defence and had only Turkington -to beat. His shot was a poor one, and weut wide. Marshment and Condon combined in a nice movement, which ended in Condon heading the ball into the net. The goal, however, was ruled offside. Following a corner. Todd headed in for Diamond. 1-1. Half-time was called soon afterwards. In spite of the fact that they wore playing against the wind, Marist adopted offensive attacks and seriously threatened tlie Diamond goal. The Diamond defence was severely tested by raids from the Marist wingers. Following a period of even play, Hindle scut the-' ball .to M. Condon, who beat Wyatt with a short-1 range shot. Marist 2, Diamond 3. Play became fast and open, but Diamoud were unable to take full advantage of the wiud. Stark was prominent with- uic-e work oil the win«. but his finishing efforts were weak. Marist more than held their own for the remainder of the spell,, but did not add to tlie score, the game ending 2-1. in their favour. Mr. J. Sanderson was the referee.
