POLICE ON TAMAROA

NO SUCCESS

The forty members of the Police Force mentioned in yesterday's "Post" as searching tho Tamaroa for silver kept up their search until 5.30 p.m., but met with no success. It is practically impossible to search a ship with passengers on board, so the search was made before the passengers arrived. However, the police did not relax their vigilance in the evening; constables, detectives, and Customs officers remained on board, and kept the vessel under supervision until sho sailed at 7 a.m. today for Southampton and London, via Panama. Although intercolonial liners have b»en raided recently for silver, ' the Tamaroa is the first Home liner to bo searched for coin.. No person is allowed to take more than £5 worth of silver from New Zealand to England, but it i 3 known that large sums in coin have been smuggled out of the Dominion to the Old Country.
