STATEMENT BY MR. CHAPMAN

Mr. C, H. Chapman, M.P., referring today to the statement by Mr. H. Miller in yesterday's "Post," stated: — "I have inspected the council minute book containing minutes of meeting held May 18, 1922, and I find it is recorded that when the report was submitted recommending a reduction of 5s in the wages of council employees my protest is recorded. The, minutes are brief in character, and do not include any remarks either in favour of the reduction or against. However, I have a recollection of putting up a lone-hand fight against both the reduction, and non-payment for wet time. On the latter question no division was taken, so it is incorrect to suggest it was supported by me. My protest against de■duction for lost time owing to wet weather has frequently been voiced."
