TOWED TO CAPE TOWN

Loaded almost to her PI imsoll marks with 8000 tons of valuable cargo, the Harrison liner, Magician, entered the docks at Cape Town on May 9, states the "Capo Times." After leaving London on a passage.to Cape Town all went well until the vessel was south of the Equator and 1600 miles distant from Table Bay. Up to that time a fairly fast rnn had been made. On April' 27 it was reported that there was damage to a crankshaft -which would necessitate considerable delay while the trouble was being righted. It was known that the company's steamer Actor was in the vicinity bound to Durban with a full cargo. A wireless message soon brought her on the scene, and a long length of cable was passed between the ships. The Actor then took the'disabled'Magician in tow and made satisfactory progress at the rate of about six knots. Fortunately, the weather was fine, and no 'difficulty was experienced. For fivo days the Actor carried her charge to the southward, and by the time the ships were somo 700 miles from Cape Town the engineers of the Magician reported that the vessel cotild proceed under her own steam. A moderately heavy swell was rolling up from the south-westward, but the job had been so successful that a steady speed of nine knots was maintained until the vessel entered Table Bay. Two of Cape Town's powerful tugs went out to the Magician as soon as she arrived off the breakwater and nursed her in tp the South Arm.
