UPPER HUTT BOROUGH
The. fortnightly meeting of the :; Upper, Hutt -Borough Council was held last night; Tiie Mayor (Mr! L_. J. MeCurdy) presided/ -and 'there' -were'- also: present Councillors A. Howell, TE. W-. Cottle, _\ Pifrvis, G. S7 Bates, K. 1. I_eys, W. Portune, W*. Greig, and'G.-Hv Guth.ie. . -7 "77 •; Notification ./as-received that the borough's hospital levy, this year; would be £823 9s, compared "Vi-ith last year's levy, of £858 18s' 2d. , 7 .-.Support for the cbuneil'B. proposed deputation to .he .Railway Board regarding train sen-ices and fares was promised in. a iletter.-from the. Belmont'Progressive Association, which suggested that, the .bo-op-eration.'of '. the.' Waiwetu Progressive Association might; also 'be enlisted. ' Tne matter was referred to'tho-deputation. An offer was received-from--the Railway Bus Department pf seats to be installed at bus st(/ps and maintained at the councils cost. . .The Department suggested the Up-, per _hltt Post Office,* the Quinn's .Post Hotel, Marlon Street, Camp Road,, the Herotauiiga Post Office, and. St. P*.trifk's College as desirable locations for the seats. The offer was accepted. The Hutt County Council intimated .hat it had decided not to construct a footpath1 on 'the' Main .'Road from- the Upper Hutt Bordugli boundary to a point 'opposite Akatarawa Road, It was pointed out that there was nb spoil handy for the construction, of the .path, and that this alone would necessitate * considerable expenditure. On" the motion of Councillor Greig a special committee, .'consisting of: the Mayor and Purvis, Bates, and Greig, was Set up-to confer with the Hutt Cbunty Ctfuiipil in an endeavour to have the' path formed. ~ Introduced 7_y Councillor ,<?uthrie, a deputation from the Upper Hutt Fire Brigade, Waited upon the council !to a& for. better practice facilities on Mahjstone ■Park.'. A -speci_l request was made for the installation of'two new .water'plugs;■ to replace the existing plug at the park, so that., the Hutt yalley-,fire brigade* demonstration, could rberheld there this year. The Mayor replied. that the request ...vou'ld be dc;alt with when the estimates; wei;e ( being considered. . " ; " ;■" .
