(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) , INVERCARGILL, June 23. 'The Eing Solomon wash-up for the week totalled 630z 14dwt. The Frcshford wash-up for 120 hours' work was 12%o„. The mining industry in Wethcrstones district took another forward move on Monday when the sluicing claim recently acquired by Mr. R. S. Thompson was officially opened. The mine is situated on the old Wetherstones School ground, of about three acres, and will be worked by hydraulic .sluicing methods. The plant is the one which was used by the Rise Company some years ago. The special correspondent of the "Otago Daily Times," referring to operations in the Kawarau district, reported that with the hardest frosts of the season during the past week, the rivers are now at a low winter level, the Kawarau being under the lowest mark on the gauge at the town. With a continuation of present conditions a very low winter level will be touched. There is every prospect of further activity on the Cornish Point claim. Results of the geophysical survey bear out the theory that a wide deposit exists towards the western, or Kawarau side, of the claim. Preliminaries towards giving the claim another trial are now in hand. Ounce, Ltd., at Kawarau Gorge, is steadily at work with two shifts and still has to extend the low tunnel some distance before reaching its objective in the back, a deep gutter, which, from the lay of the country, appears to exist. A splendid electrical outfit is in readiness to treat any'wash struck. A considerable amount of outside capital is still available for areas ori Cromwell Elat, in the vicinity of the rich claims, and several important transactions are reported. It is also stated that some very high prices per acre are being asked, and paid, for likely areas. Miners at Deadman's Point are hard at work, and are reported to be winning encouraging prospects. C. Sarieh and F. Cropp, who are tributing in the Dawn of Hope mine on the Moanataiari Creek, are reported to have struck another leader. Two loads of ore sent to the Thames School of Mines battery resulted in a yield of 20 ounces of gold, an 'average of 4 ounces to the ton. The two men struck a rich leader a few months ago, and the yield of about £1000 worth of gold resulted from a small quantity of stone. The statutory meeting of shareholders in Northern Goldfields, Ltd., Auckland, yesterday elected the following directors: —Mr. Wm. Goodfellow (chairman), Sir James Gunson, Messrs. Norman Spencer, V. K. Burrell (Auckland), Sir Alex. Roberts (Wellington), Mr. R.. A. Anderson (Invercargill).
