WELLINGTON REGIMENT
FORMING OF PLATOONS
Lieutenant-Colonel J. L. Saunders, D.5.0,. V.D., presided over the monthly meeting of officers of the Wellington Regiment, There was a large attendance. Major Armstrong, M.C., V.D., reported that there was every prospect of forming a platoon at Jbhnsonville. This was in accordance with the suggestion made at a previous meeting to form platoons in the various suburbs so that recruits would not be involved in any expenditure in the matter of transport to and from parades. Captain Mantell-Harding stated that there were also prospects of a platoon being formed at Karori. The activities of the signal section were reported upon by Lieutenant Hayton. An intensive syllabus of work has been drawn up. An outline of the syllabus for the intelligence section, headquarters wing, was reported by Lieutenant Meachen. The band and pipes and drums were progressing most favourably, stated Lieutenants Scott and Maciver. A suggestion to send a challenge to the Auckland Regiment for a rifle' competition was discussed, and favourable comment was made. jMajor T. Buxton presided over a meeting of the officers' ■ mess committee, held subsequently. He expressed the committee's sincere thanks to the proprietors of the "Evening Post" for their interest in the activities of the regiment. The meeting discussed at some length the arrangements in connection with the forthcoming brigade camp, so far as it affected general messing arrangements. At the conclusion of the meeting, Captain Colin Sinclair-Thompson, A.D.C., R.N., Naval Board, New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, delivered an instructive and interesting talk on the limitations of naval armaments. . It was generally felt by the officers present that much useful information had been conveyed by Captain Thompson.
