A NIGHT IN THE POUND

The following notice was displayed on the pound gate at Te Fapapa, Onebunga, on Monday: "Impounded at 3 p.m. on June 10, one bay horse with one white [foot, unshod. Lame. White stripe dowu none. .Found straying in Wall's Road," Inside the pound was Beau Cavalier, winner of the Great Northern Steeplechase, Wellington Steeplechase, and Grand National Steeplechase in 1927, and of the Great Northern Hurdles and Winter Hurdles at Trentham in 1028. Beau Cavalier spent Monday night in the pound, and today was claimed by his owner, Mr. A. G. Quartley, of Auckland, who had been communicated with by letter by tbe poundkeeper.' Mr. Quartley states that the. horse' must have deliberately been let out of the paddock in which be was grazing. Mr, Quartley upset on hearing of the. plight iv which his old champion had been placed.
