I am quito satisfied it was the motive behind the movement that- was the incentive for-the people to work so unselfishly. I would like to congratulate fho other committees for the very good spirit that has prevailed throughout the campaign. Apartf from the fact that the Retailers' candidate has won, I am highly gratified at the financial success of the effort, because we realise that our little effort will reflect joy in the hearts of some of the people for whom we have been working. Mr. A. H. Crawley, chairman of the Transport and Wholesalers' Committee, said he was delighted with the result from the point of view of.the sum obtained, although naturally he was a little disappointed that his committee's queen was not elected. He stressed the fact that the amount stated above is tho not amount, all expenses having been defrayed. Mr. E. P. Wild, chairman of the Combined Clerical Committee, said it was quite apparent that the result exceeded everyone's anticipations.
