HUTT AND ORIENTAL

The score, 14-3 in favour of Tlutt. did I not reflect the run of play in the Hutt-, Oriental match at the Hutt Recreation j Ground. Oriental hnd quite as much of the same as Hutt, but lacked the speed and finish of the Hutt backs. Hutt seemed out to win with their backs, and this .was a wise policy. Although' the Oriental rear-' guard did well on defence, they were npt so proficient On attack. The teams were:— Hutt: Lilburne; Nees, Killeen, Ball;Stevenson, Feeriey; Spencer; Bradley, Coulston, Wilson, Barry, Saulbrey, Hookery Peck, Trenchard. Oriental: Ramsay; Baldwin, Rnru, Fulford; Ritchie, Royel; Sydolls; Shepherd, Fry, Biggar, Calvin, Fairhall, Collingsj Henshaw, Mcllwraith. : Some general play followed the kick-off, and then Hutt instituted a rush down field. A penalty was awarded, and Lilburne kicked an easy goal. There was little else that was exciting in the spell.

Xeither side had any advantage. Hutt started many passing rushes, some of them being well from inside their own twenty-five line, but none met with success. Ritchie, an Oriental player, ret.ired hurt, and was replaced by Eade. The score at half-time was Hutt 3, Oriental 0. Hutt started the second spell in great style, scoring almost straight away. Itfees crossed the line, and Lilburne converted with a good kick. Oriental attacked for sonic time, and Baldwin scored after a short passing, rush. After a further Oriental attack Lilburne broke away from right on the line, setting in motion a passing rush "which enabled Ball to make a fine run. .lust as he was overtaken he threw the ball infield, and Stevenson accepted the pass and scored. Oriental, then Hutt pressed, and from one of Hiitt's attacks Satilbrey scored. The game resolved itself into a dour struggle between the forwards, but there was no further addition to the score, the final result being Hutt 14, Oriental 3. ' Mr. J. S. King was referee.
