A DISAPPOINTING CAME

In a disappointing match the newlypromoted St. Patrick's College Old Boys' team failed against Marist in the early game at Athletic Park, losing by 19 points to 5. Marist had easily the better of the play, and really the youthful St. Patrick's Old Boys team was outclassed. The football was not of a high standard, and at times the game was just a scramble. At half-.tithe the score was 3-0 in favour of Manet, Hepburn having kicked a penalty. Early in the second spell Frost set the Marist backs going and Robins brilliantly cut-in and prepared the. way for Russell to score. St. Patrick's Old Boys had a turn-,when O'Connor broke up a Marist passing rush by grassing McGreevy with a great tackle. McParland kicked through and followed up fast, touching down after a scramble on the line. McGuinness converted. Hepburn added two more penalties to the Marist account after McParland had showed up in some good defensive' work, and then Robins, surrounded by players, swung a "dummy" pass and "potted" a neat goal. Marist were having much the better of a poor game, and their-last try was the result of a solo effort by McGreevy. who ran threequarters of the field, kicked past MeCiiiinness, and following up dropped on the ball. Hepburn made a good but unsuccessful attempt to convert, and the pame ended: Marist 19, St. Patricks College' Old Boys 5. . . Mr. B. Matthews was the reteree.
