Once apon'a time there lived a king who had three beautiful daughters-—! Florence, Felicity,, and Phoebe. . ' Time and time' again', suitors, for these maidens came, but all failed ta pass the three tests the king set. ■'"•'. Then a neighbouring prince, -while staying -with them, fell in love with the youngest, Phoebe,, arid • she with: him. But he had to undergo the three .tests which the king set. . '■ , : ."■.•' \ ' , The king told the prince to .findl out which daughter he (the king*) loved best, if he loved Florence, like sytup, Felicity like sugar, "and" Pho.eb^. likehoney. The prince, after-thinking, replied that the king* loved .Phoebe, best, for honey was sweeter than-syrup or sugar. ? "Very good," said the king,"but now you have the second test." : In the second test the prince had to stand before the three daughters, and Florence and Felicity each held a lova charm. • •. . "If you love Phoebe you will-walk to her when.l tell you to walkto the one you love, but if you don't—walk to, the one you love best," said the king. Arid the prince walked to Phoebe. "Splendid!" cried the king. "Now for the last test. To prove tha« youi love is not blind, tell me the three faults of Phoebe?". , . ■ ,- ; Without hesitation, the r prince f<* plied: '' Smiling at every beggar eh< sees; laughing at her grandmother; .and disguising herself ftg a beggar.*.'
