EXTREME DELAY

WAR PENSIONS APPEALS

AUCKLAND PROPOSAL

<By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post.")

AUCKLAND, June 14.

The abolition of the War Pensions Board and the institution of two boards to take the place of the present War Pensions Appeal Board is advocated by the executive of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic and War Belief. Associa- j tion. \ Reporting to the executive at its meeting today, the Claims Board said j that there were several cases of extreme delay in the determination by the Appeal Board of applications for pensions. It was felt that, in justice to the claims of many delayed cases, the Claims Board must make such grants as would keep the applicants from want during the waiting period.

One case was cited in which seven months had elapsed from tho time of appealing, and the ease had not yet been determined. As the Appeal Board had left Auckland, it was probable another three months would elapse before the case was completed. A modification that might be to the advantage of all would be tho disbanding of the ordinary War Pensions Board and the institution of two boards to take the place of the one Pensions Appeal Board, one board' acting in tho- North Island and. one in the South Island.

It was decided to endorse the Claims Board's suggestion regarding the Pensions Boards, and to make representations to tho Government on those fines.
