Tho . .lioyal Ascot llaeo Meeting opened sensationally.' The jockey Steve Donoghuo was thrown heavily when his mount, Tavern, dashed against the barrier at the start of the Prince of Wales, Stakes. The. stewards suspended the jockey Michael Beary for. tho remainder of-the meeting. Beary, who. was also thrown, denies that he caused tho accident by trying to beat "the start.

The famous trainer, F. Leader, who trained Gainslaw, the winner of tho Ascot Gold Vase yesterday,; when motoring home from-Newmarket with his wife at midnight, crashed into a lorry. Both were killed.
