A dinner party was given' in' Christchurch on Tuesday evening 'in honour of' Lady Aeland, and to convey to her the congratulations' of her friends on the honour recently conferred upon her husband, Sir I^ughAcland, by tho King. The party, which was organised by Mrs. James Maling and Miss Monica Cocks, was held at the New City Hotel; and was followed by a picture party.

Mrs. Clendon, the wife of Mr. S." Clendon, died at Lower Hutt on Tuesday. The Hutt Eiver Board yesterday passed a resolution of sympathy with Mr. Clendon, who is an ex-member of the board. ■
