RUGBY SELECTORS
NOBTH-SOUTH NOMINEES
QUESTION OF FUTURE TEAMS
No 'decision has been niado by the New Zealand Bugby Union's Management Committee as, to the number of selectors to be appointed this season for the choice of players for the interIsland match, but the'usual course has been followed by inviting unions to make nominations. So fas, "as. big match play is concerned there will be no.need of New Zealand selectors this year unless, in view of events in subsequent seasons, the management coinurittco deems it advisable to have a New Zealand selection committee functioning with the object of keeping prospective candidates for New "Zealand teams closely in view. This duty, of j course, could.be carried out by the i inter-Island selectors without any. definite appointment of Now- Zealand selectors. It is expected that New Zealand's next big engagements will bo met next 'year, when a fully rcpresen- j tativc team is expected from Australia, j •After that, there will-be in all probability a visit to Australia before the tour.of the Home countries is undertaken, an event; for'which,-the management committee realises, early preparation is desirable.' ■- ':■ ';'■■ : :. *' , Nominations of North and South Island selectors closed yesterday, and the appointments -of • selectors >is, likely to be made next iveelc. .Although. Mr..> T.,McKenzio. has beea nominated by Bush Districts, it would appear that, he.is not; available as his o\vh: union' did not nominate him. Mr. 3. :. N. Millard, Wellingtoa's selector, was .not available for notoihation as a North Island selector. Last year one selector was appointed for each island —Mr. E. McKcnzie (North) and Mr. 'A. McDonald (South)—iind they were also New Zealand's selectors'. Mr. Me- ! Donald is now stationed in AVellingtou.! • Tho Hawke's Bay Rugby TTnion has notified that it reserves the right to make, fui'ther nominations in the event of inoro than one .selector being required for the Nortli Island, and the Canterbury Union has suggested that .there should be three selectors for the South!- Island ■ . ■ ;
