GIANT CRABS
ON VICTORIAN COAST FISHING GROUNDS INVADED MELBOURNE, June S. Fishermen at Corner Inlet, Southern Gippsland, have made a strange request to the Government. They declare that their livelihood is jeopardised by an invasion .of giant crabs, somo of which are two feet across, which abound in the local fishing waters. The crabs, which are a light strawberry colour, closely resemble the giant Japanese variety, aud can be seen two to three feet thick on the sea bed. At least twenty-two miles of them are also swarming near Wilson's Promontory. The fishermen are asking the' Government for launches to haul heavy rollers over the sea bed in order to cr"ush them.
