THE EXCITING BIRTHDAY HUNT

(Original, by "Myaterious," aged 14, City.) IT -was..tho Fairy King's birthday,1 so Fairiel proposed a. hunt. As she had proposed it,L all the fairies and elves, including her Fairy Prince, insisted.upon her hiding. Half an hour later tho whole of Fairyland set out to search for her. After having hunted for several hours without success, the suggestion .was mado to use magic. Everyone greeted this with applause, so they started off again. Fairiei had not taken her wand, so she could not use magic against them. In ithe, meantime, let us see where Fairiel is. The old wizard, Blucuosc, so named, because his nose was blue from sticking it into a tin of paint to see what was.iv tho tin, had caught Fairiel, aud taken her to his dreary castle on Unscaleable Cliff. Now, Fairiel was allowed to walk about on the clifftop as she could not escape; but the old wizard forgot that there is more than one way of conveying messages, and so Fairiel was quite unmolested while she, tore a strip of material off the white gown she was wearing, and, picking up some fire-blackened wood, wrote a messago on it. She then threw the niessago over the cliff. . •.-,.,- Fairy Snowdrop was at that moment at the bottom of the cliff and picked lip tbo message. With it she flow swiftly back to Fairyland. She showed tho message to Fairicl's Prince, who snatched up Fairiel's wand and flew to the bottom of tho cliff. He threw it up to tho waiting Fairiel, who hid it in her dress as tho wizard approached. When inside the castle she took out the wand and cast a spell over the wizard. She then flew over the cliff, which she could not do. unless she* had her wand. When, they reached Fairyland, Fairiel announced that a_fancy dress ball would'be held in honour of her rescue, whereat all the fairies and . elves scurried - home ,to put on their prettiest clothes. At tho ball, Snowdrop was presented with' a beautiful golden spangly dress with shoes to match as a reward'for saving Fairiel. ' When Snowdrop had put thorn on she was awarded first prize :for the most rbeautiful' dress at the ball. Ju's.t as the sun rose the fairies vanished, wishing that they could have a birthday every day, and I know one fairy who, as she tumbled into bed, murmured something about it having been her lucky day.
