HIDES AND SKINS
A BUOYANT MARKET Wellington brokers held their customary fortnightly sale of skins and hides yesterday. There was a large attendance of buyers, and the market was in a very buoyant state, competition being exceptionally keen, often excited. The firm tone in. the wool market was reflected in the' values of sheepskins, which again advanced %d to %d lb, the greatest advance being on fine woolled lots. Tanners and exporters competed freely for hides, which experienced a general ud vance all round. Cow hides and lightweight ox advanced fully %d, medium and heavy ox from Vtd to %d. Yearling and kip showed a decided advance, being from l%d to l%d higher. Calfskins also showed a sharp rise, selling at l%d and in some lots up to 2d advance on last sale's level. There was only a small offering of tallow, which was firm at last sale's prices. The official range of prices was as follows:—Dry sheepskins: Halfbred, 5%d to 5%d; fine crossbred, 4%d to 6%d; medium crossbred, 3%d to 5%c1; coarse crossbred, 2d to 4%d; half wools, 2%d to «4%d; quarter wools, l%d to 3%d; pelts, l%d to'2%d. Salted.skins: Pelts, Is 2d; half wools, Is lOd to 2s Id; three-quarter wools, 2s to 2s sd; lambs, Is to Is 6d. Hides: Ox, 331b to 441b. 4%d to 6d; 45 to 52, 2££d to 0 3-8 d; 53 to 59, 4%d to 6 3-8 d; 60 to 69,. 5 3-8 dto 7d; 70 and over, CUd .to 7%d; cow, 33 to 39. 2%d to 6%d; 40 to 48, 4%d to 6%d; 49 and over, 4 7-8 d to 6%<T; kip, 25 to 32, Id to 6 5-8 d; 17 to 24, 4d to 7 3-8 d; yearling, 11 to 16, 4d to 7 3-8 d; calf, 9 to 10, 4d to 7 3-8 d; 6 to 8, 6%d to 9 3-8 d; 1 to 5, 4d to 9 3-Bd. Tallow and sundries, in casks, 13s to 15s; in tins, etc.,'Bs to 12s;'cow tails, 4d;-horse hair,- 9d to 13d.
