PRONUNCIATION OF MAORI NAMES
(To the Editor.) j Sir,—l would like to support the views I of "Quarter-cnste Maori" published in today's issue of>'"The* Post."' Harsh, distorted pronunciation of Maori names often offends' the ears of pakeha as Well'1 as those of thoughtful Maori people. Ought not a pakeha to be ashamed that he cannot pronounce New Zealand. place,names, etc, correctly in the presence of overseas visitors, or friends, either pakeha or Maori? Can we not appeal to everyone to learn to pronounce the names as correctly as possible, thus maintaining their soft beauty'and significance? As for Mr. Announ'cev at 2YA, if his correct pronunciation shows some their own blatant errors all honour, to him for-showing them the w-dy to remedy their ignorance.—l am, °tC;' KORO MOHI.
