LAMB AND MUTTON EXPORTS

The Bank of New Zealand, produce department, has received the following advice from its London office as at close of business this week:—"There is a better inquiry for lightweight wethers. The market- for ewes is quiet and unchanged. The market for lambs has improved, and the demand is good. It is thought that prices will remain steady at present quotations. The market for beef is weak. Wethers, light 3d to 4d per Ib, heavy 2%d to 2%d; ewes, 2d to 3Vnl; lambs, two's 5%d to 6d, eight's 5d to sAd, four's 4 5-Sd to 4 7-Bd, seconds s]/4d5 ]/4d to 5%d; ox hinde, 2Vad to 294 d, fores-1 7-8 dto 2 1-Sd; cow hinds, 2 l-8d to 2 3-Sd, fores. 1 5-8 dto 1 7-8 d (all per lb)." Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents, dated May 26:-—"Frozen meat quotations, 'including storage charges, cartage, market tolls, for North Island lambs and mutton are as follows:—Down lambs, 28-3<ilb, 6 l-8d per 1b; 36-42. sAd; crossbred lambs, 23-36, 5 7-8 d; 36-42, 5 l-8d; second quality lambs, average 30-31, 5%d; wethers, under 48, 3 7-8 d; 43-56, 3 3-8 d;: 56-64, 2 7-8 d; 64-72, 2 5-8 d; ewes, tinder 48, 3Ud; 48-56, 2%d; 56-64, 2%d; 64-72, 2V*fr. New Zealand prime ox beef, 160-220, 2 3-Bd. "Compared with last week's quotations, Down lamb, 28-361b, l-8d per lb higher; 30-421 b,-%d per lb higher. Crossbred lamb, 28-361b, 1-Sd per lb higher; 36-421b, >Ad per lb higher. Second quality lamb, l-8d per lb higher. Wethers, under 481b, l-8d per lb higher; 56-721b, l-8d per lb lower. Ewes, 48-641b, l-8d per lb higher. Prime ox beef, l-8d per lb higher. Others unchanged. The market for lamb is firm and for mutton the tendency is better. Prices appear to have reached bottom." The Meat Board reports shipments of meat for the period October 1, 1932, to May 15 last, as under:—
