LODGE MEETINGS
Te Alumni Encampment, 2\o. 11, 1.0.0. F., N.Z., held its monthly meeting at Lower Hutt. The Chief Patriarch (Bio. C. E. Tanner) presided over a large attendance. A ballot was taken for two candidates as members, and proved unanimous in both cases. The . second nomination of officers was received, and the following declared elected for the ensuing term:—Pat. S. Kay, C.P.; Pat. H. Jones," H.P.; Pat. H. Rule, S.W.; Pat. J- Mclntosh, J.W.; Pat. F. Armstrong, R.J.; Pat. E. Griffiths, F.S.; Pat. J. Pearson, Treasurer. A committee yas appointed to make the catering and social arrangements for next meeting, on which occasion the first anniversary will be celebrated. Business being '.complete the encampment was closed. . . The usual meeting of Onslow Lodge, No: 128, 1.0.0.F.;' N.Z., was held last, week, Bro. A. E. Thomas presiding over a good attendance. Official visits were paid by the D.D.G.M. (Bro. G. F. Eudkin) and suite, and by members of Pride of Kavori, Southern Cross, and Ngatitoa' Lodges. Speeches by visiting brethren concluded an
interesting evening. Cutlery grinding is one of the. most dangerous occupations, owing to the workers breathing in so much silica dust. The mortality among grinders is 30 ;.cr cent, greater than the average.
