The minting of the Dominion's new silver coinage Avas discussed' at a meeting of tho Wellington Metal Trades Council last night, and tho following statement for .publication was agreed to:— ' "Tho Wellington Metal .Trades Council desires to co-opcratc with, tho New Zealand Manufacturers' Association in pressing for tho minting of tho coins ia New Zealand, Wo ore astounded at the suggestion from Dunedin that this work rihould be doiio in Australia, which is a reflection on our artisans, who,1 we contend, are equal to the world's best both iv speed'and efficiency. ' . : ■ ' . "We appeal to the public to get behind tho manufacturers in their, efforts to dovelop' our secondary. •. industries. .The tragedy of highly-skilled artisans being condemned to pick and shovel work surely calls for action. Then, again, what is to become of our boys and youths who aspire to become useful citizens? Tho matter is urgent, and tails for action by the people of, the Dominion."
