At the Supreme Court this morning /Eloquent' and graceful tributes were 'paid to the life and work of Sir 'Thomas Sidey in. ,the presence of a 'Large gathering of members of the pro.;f ession to which he belonged. ■ ; The' principal speakers were Mr. TV 'B. Adaias*,- president of the OtagoLaw Society; the Hon.. "W. Downie Stewart, prid Mn Justice ■Kennedy. - -: •• • 1 In the coutse of Ms tribute Ms Hon'oursaid that in no circumstances •'could- ' Sir Thomas Sidey be other than a kind, loyal, and courteous gentleman.-: It: "\Yas not Ms nature to press Ms own; advancement, :'ahd his life t happily afforded an: illustration of how,,high office may come to • those who have : patient merit but who are more concerned with the public good than with seeking their own advantages. ' "It niay be said," continued his Hon- ■ cxir, "that.the course of Ms life was such that no one envied Ms preferment and that at each step in his career he ■won and retained the admiration of '/his fellows until death ended a life '■which will always be held in affection- '& Je remembrance."
