HENDREN'S HEADGEAR

SPECIFIC PROTECTION

ADVISED TO DROP IT

(Received May 24, 1 p.m.)

LONDON, May 23. Hendren, in M.C.C./s second innings against West Indies at Lord's, wore a protective cap made of cloth-lined rubber, with peaks covering the ears. He says that he is only wearing it against Larwood, Bowes, and Constantine, other bowlers being insufficiently fast. The newspapers scathingly comment on Hendren's "eccentric contraption" and "sinister-looking affair." The "Sketch" says: " 'Patsy' would be well advised to leave his ridiculous headgear in the pavilion, or, better still, send it to Australia." ■
