CAR WRECKED
AT PARAPARAUMU
YOUTH ADMITS CHARGE OF CONVERSION
Having "borrowed" a car in Hobson Street with the intention of driving it 'to Palnierston North, John Henry Wilson, aged 20, wrecked it at Paraparauniu. As a result he appeared today before Mr. E. Page, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court, where he pleaded guilty to a charge of converting to-his own use a car owned by Alfred de Bathe Brandon. Wilson also pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a handbag and-contents valued at £2. Detective-Sergeant Kevell, said that on May 9 the accused, in company wjth another young man named Coley, went to Hobson Street, where he.took Mr. Brandon's car. The accused and his companion intended to drive to Palmerston North, but. at Paraparaumu they crashed into an iron gate. The car was wrecked and the two young men were injured. Coley was still in hospital, and would appear 'bef ore the Court when he was discharged. AVhen interviewed by Detective Long in connection with the charge of stealing J;he handbag the accused said that he noticed'it in the window of.a'house in Boulcott Street. He put his hand in and took it. The accused, who was stated to have quite a list of convictions dating from 1928, was released from Borstal on March 9. Tho Magistrate, imposed a sentence of three months' imprisonment on each charge, the terms to be concurrent.
