Sowman, .tobacconists, Lambton Quay, about 2.30 o ?clook :this mornThe thieves had gathered a quantity of stock on the floor of the shop, and wore apparently preparing to depart when the nightwatchman entered and flashed his torch on them. The intruders, left hurriedly, and as far as can be ascertained took nothing with them. Detectives are inquiring into the matter. . . A' burglary was committed in a house in Hill Street during the early hours of last evening.and when quite a number of people were in the house at tho time. A diamond ring was taken, and also a small amount of money.
