RETURN WANTED

COUNCIL'S LITIGATION

Tho following motion was moved by Mr. M. Levy at the annual meeting of the Hataitai Municipal. Electors' Association last night: — "That the City Council should be asked to authorise the furnishing of a return showing: (1) The number 'of Supreme Court cases conducted by the City Solicitor over tho period of two years previous to the recent municipal elections; (2) the number of such cases in which the council has been successful; (3) tho cost entailed; (4) the value of the awards and the net amount received from same by the council; (5) what was the amount represented' in the difference between the sum awarded the litigants against the council arid the amount they would havp.been prepared to accept without prejudice." ;. Mr. Levy said he had read most of the reports of the eases, and he did not remember seeing that the council had won one case. ' , A member questioned whether • the council should have to give the information. ' - ■"■..■■'. .':',■ Mr. Levy maintained that it should. If the motion was passed he thought the,matter should be handed over to the Givic League, as it was a question for the whole of the citizens and not merely the residents of Hataitai. The motion was carried by five votes to four.
