FEAR FOR OWN TRADE
WASHINGTON, May 3. Although private and commercial circles are frankly disturbed with th# implications of the Anglo-Argentina; trade pact, as calculated to seriously, affect American trade in Argentina and* put another damper on the outlook ojj the London conference official quarters appear not to be unduly anxious. Any] criticism of the fact that the Treaty) has been announced during the discussions on a trade truce is tempered by{ the knowledge that Great Britain hag beon carrying on negotiations for some time. It is also felt that the fact that the Treaty provides for a supple* mentary agreement dealing with duties, to be completed1 between now and August 1, indicates the importance of what may be accomplished by the London conference. Some' observers view the Treaty at illustrating the necessity for the United States to negotiate similar agreement! for the promotion of commerce with other countries, and believe that President Boosevelt's position will b« stronger whea he request! power from Congress to open' such negotiations. The Argentine delegation visited th* Department of Agriculture and di* cussed the American Government 'i quarantine regulations in regard taj Argentine meat products. It is un« derstodd that the Department's experts held out little encouragement thai the regulations would be altered in th«f near future, - -
