TO SMASH HITLRISM
ECONOMIC PEESSTJEE
SCIENTIST'S APPEAL
LONDON, May 12. "The Germans refuse to recognise the intellectual and moral grounds of humanity and seem deliberately to be cutting themselves off from civilisation," said Professor J. B. S. Haldane, the eminent scientist, addressing the London University Union prior to the passage of a resolution/ protesting against the persecution in Germany, and the appointing of committees to fight Hitlerism. ■ Professor Haldane added that murders! and mutilations were relatively unimportant compared with the attempt to starve a million Jews to death in default of departure from the country. Hitlerism was more terrible than Bolshevism. The persecution of the Jews was only the beginning. Most Britons were tending to recognise coloured peoples as equals, as France already did, to the horror of Hitler, who branded coloured people as untouchable. : "We must smash Hitlerism by economic pressure, succour the refugees, and prevent the spread of German Fascism here," said Professor Haldane. "We must boycott German goods, if necessary forcibly." Professor Lancelot Hogben said that nobody was more responsible than Mr. Mac Donald for placing and keeping Herr Hitler in the saddle.
