COINAGE FOR RELIEF
(To tha Editor.)
Sir,—l »m entirely in accord with those who think we should mint our own coinage, ns the profits would be greater, and a certain 'mount of employment would be given. But I have a more comprehensive scheme to put forward. If part or the whole of the funds collected for I relief of unemployment were used to purchase silver on tho open market to be minted here, a clear saving of ten'shiUings in the pound could be made. In other words, the funds available would go twice as far. The new coinage could be circulated in wages to relief workers, a better rate of pay given, and more money made available for other schemes such as land settlement, gold prospecting, etc. The. extra money would quickly pass on and act as a stimulant to every trade.—l am, EtC" R. J. TOPP.
