"THE GOBLiN-MEN "
I'm net frightened of the dark it all, Thwgh I used to be whan I was small. My room was right at th« top of the house, And I lay quiet as any mouse; And when nurse turned off the light, I'd shut my eyes so tight! But once I peeped at the goblin-men, (I'm sure there must have been mor« than ten) Who danced »t the foot of my b«d; Though I'd pull the bedclothes over my head, I still could hear their chuckles of glee, As tha horrible things poked fun. at me.
But now I'm not frightened, no. not any more. I'm growing so big (there's marks on the door!) I've a big ticking clock in my room at night. And its face is pleasant and shines so bright. It ticks and it ticks, so loud and long. That it seems to be singing a sweet little song. It never sets tired like me or you. But goes on ticking the whole night through; And when It was given me..that very day, It drove all those horrible, goblins away! So I'm not scared of the dark at all. Though I used to be when I was small.
