Amongst the recent publications dealing with the various problems that at present confront the world is "Booms and1 Depressions," by Irving Fisher (George Allen and' Unwin,- Ltd.) ProJ fessor Fisherhas a lucid way of writing about economics and monetary problems, and this book with its many tables and appendices, will help to make clear the causes of the present depression. It hints, too, at possible solutions to our troubles. The question of war debts is discussed fully in "America Must Cancel," by Frank H. Simonds, and "Britain and the War Debts*," by Leonard J. Eeid, who iscity editor of the London "Daily Telegraph.". , The former has a foro ward by Sir Philip Gibbs, and is pub• lished by Hamish Hamilton, and. the latter has a foreword by Sir Bobcrt Home, and is published by Herbert Jenkins.
