IMPROVEMENT TOMORROW

Strong south-westerly to southerly winds •will reach Rale forco in places, but by tomorrow they should be decreasing somewhat in strength, according to the weather forecast issued at noon today. In the meantime the wea' ther will- continue to be cold, squally, and changeable, with further heavy showers at times in most districts, and* with hail in places and. snow "on the, ranges. ' An improvement, however, may be expected by tomorrow. At the present time an intense lowpressure area lies to the cast of New Zealand, and barometers are very low to the east md south-east of the South Island. This has had the effect of giving the "Dominion cold, changeable, and showery weather, with hail in places and snow on the ranges. The rainfall on the whole has been light to moderate, although-heavy in parts of northern- and southern districts. Christchurch also had heavy rain last night. Auckland had another cold and boisterous day yesterday, there being frequent ihowers and hail at times. Wellington was more lucky, and the weather yesterday was fine and pleasant, although cold. A light southerly prevailed during the day, and this freshened in the evening. The rain whichfell between 6 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. and again early this morning totalled seven points at Kelburn and four in Lower Hutt. A strong south-westerly wind prevailed in Christchureh yesterday, the weather being cold and showery. Some heavy rain fell during the night, the total fall being 75, points.
