SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS.
Barometers are still low everywhere, the depression over New Zealand having made little eastward progress since yesterday. Unsettl'od, wet weather has been general, heavy rain having fallen in many parts of' the North Island, but in the South Island it has been chiefly light. During "yesterday the southerly winds gradually extended over the Dominion, and this morning gales , were reported at a few places in the far north, but for tho most part they have been moderate to fresh in force. The southerly has brought cooler temperatures everywhere.
