THE NAZIS' WAYS
PLEDGE BY HITLER
PROTEST BY HUGENBERG
! LONDON, April 20. I. Tho. Nazi unification "under tho national revolution of chambers of commerce and public, organisations is the subject of a warning nnd a protest by tho Nationalist leader,, Horr Hugoaberg, says tho Berlin correspondent of "Tho Times." By,this process, called "gleichsehaltung" Nazis enter tho boards meetings and eject Jews, Marxists, and other political opponents. Ilerr Hugenberg is rojseniful of the Nationalists' waning influence, and has addressed his warning to the Chancellor, Hcrr Hitler. He condemns the changes which "private patriots" aro enforcing, and declares that they cannot niter the legal position. no also pointedly recalls that Herr Hitler promised tp'maintain tho Government in its present form, and that ho received hia power for four years conditionally upon tho continued existence of tho I present Government. Apparently tho "gloichschaltung" of the Pi-otestant Church has begun in Mecklenburg-Schwerin where the Nazi Premier appointed a commissioner for the Evangelical Lutheran Church, who promptly dissolved itß administrative bodies and took over their functions. The Evangelical churches protested vgainst the action as being contrary to Herr Hitler's promises, and the Protestant churches in all States aro nervous lest they receive similar treatment. : The- Nationalists' share in the Gov-' ornment of Prussia has been further i decreased., Captain Goering has as-j sumed the Premiership. lie confirmed, all the Nazi Ministers, but did not con-1 firm Ilerr Hugenburg in the Ministries of Labour and Agriculture.
