RUGBY FOOTBALL
PONEKE AND EASTBOURNE The Wellington Rugby Football Union's championship matches will be advanced another stage tomorrow, when the principal attraction will be the match between the Poneke and Eastbourne teams at Athletic Park. Poneke's close call at the hands of Hutt last week'showed that the champions, although well up to their last season's form, are not invincible, and few teams have better chances of heading them off than the fast-moving and spectacular team from across the harbour. ' Both clubs will be represented by strong combinations, in which clever and speedy backs will play a prominent part. There are also prospects of an interesting battle in tactics between, the forwards, with a hard rucking set and a pack favouring open play, both endeavouring to call the tune. In view,of the fact that they are endeavouring to -make every post a winning post this season in order to mark their jubilee year by a premiership title, Poneke will be all out for victory, especially as the jubilee celebrations commence tomorrow. Eastbourne, on the other hand, have been near the top of the ladder for several seasons, and this year will let no Chances of heading the list slip easily. Two fine place-kick-ers in E. Neal and F. Fuller will be on the opposing sides, and their success will probably have an important bearing on the final result.
